Replacement Options
🔧 Hydraulic brake lever/caliper: Instead of the J285 junior brake, you can use Tektro HD-M285 or HD-M276 junior/entry-level hydraulic brakes. These are current equivalents designed for youth and smaller bikes.
🔩 Rotor: The TR22 140mm is obsolete, but you can replace it with Tektro TR-24 or TR-25 rotors (available in 140mm and 160mm sizes). The TK-ABRT000021 160mm rotor is still available, so that’s a direct substitute.
🛠️ Adapter: The A2 brake adapter can be replaced with Tektro IS/PM adapters (depending on frame/fork mount type). These are widely available and compatible with modern rotors.
⚙️ Shim & bolts: Handlebar shims and rotor bolts are generic parts—any 19–22mm shim and standard M5 rotor bolts will work.
DMR disc brake bundle with everything you need to fit a disc brake to your DMR Sidekick Balance.
This pack includes a Tektro J2820 Hydraulic Kids Disc Brake with a special short lever and reach, perfect for small hands. The disc brake is hydraulic which gives it great stopping power without having to pull too hard on the lever.
The disc brake hose has been shortened to fit the Sidekick Balance and is bled and ready to fit.
The pack also includes a shim to allow the Tektro brake lever to fit the small diameter DMR handlebar, along with a caliper mount to fit the disc brake caliper to the Sidekick Balance’s disc brake mounts.
